KUSHTIA, Jun 18 (UNB): Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML-Jonojuddho) chief Abdur Rashid Malitha alias Dada Topon was killed along with one of his aides in an "encounter" with RAB troops at Baradi village in Sadar Upazila early Wednesday.

Police said the slain top outlaw, Dada Topon, 35, hailed from Jhenidah district and his slain female aide Rikta, 32, from Gangni Upazila of Meherpur.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-6 raided a house in the area and first arrested Topon's younger brother, Akash alias Kautta, 28, along with a revolver at about 2am.

Following his confessional statement, the elite force ringed a house at Baradi Schoolpara where Topon and his aide were staying, the sources said.

"Sensing the presence of RAB members, the outlaws from the house fired on the law-enforcers, forcing them to fire back, which triggered a gunfight at about 5am," says an official account of the encounter.

After the gun-battle, the law-enforcers found the bullet-riddled bodies of the two.

Later, the bodies were sent to the district General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

"Topon was wanted in some 50 cases, including murder, filed with different police stations in Kushtia and nearby districts," police said.
