Pursuing the path of tolerance

Monday, 24 December 2007

As usual we remembered on the occasion of the Victory Day on December 16 our heroes with gratitude who had sacrificed their lives to give us the Independence. May Allah bless their soul and give peace and tranquility to their families. Some of our brothers and sisters were misguided and for some reason did not support the liberation war. Of course those who are directly involved in committing atrocities should be brought to justice. And those who were not so dercelly involved in such atrocities should better be forgiven. Revanchion is no better option here.
At this junction of the nation, we should shun the path of preaching the message of hatred and trying to rekindle the division among the people. It is not time for us to be obsessed with the past and or to remain totally stuck up in the past. I consider that it is more appropriate for us at this stage to discuss ways and means for ensuring a brighter future of this poorest nation. The people have not forgotten how the nation was ruled for many years through malgovernance and corruption. We must shun the path of hypocrisy. If we love Bangladesh and its people we should all try to reconcile the past mistakes of the few and bring all Bangladeshis on-board and guide the nation toward racial, ethnic and religious harmony and bring economic liberation to the millions who can barely afford a meal a day.
Thank God we got our independence but if we cannot feed, clothe and educate our people, the purpose of liberation would be lost. Let us learn from the great African leader Nelson Mandela how he has forgiven his and his nation's worst enemies and brought real emancipation for his people.
