Pvt hospital vandalised over patient\\\'s death

CHANDPUR, July 27 (UNB): Angry relatives vandalised a hospital and assaulted two people, including a physician, in the district town in connection with the death of a patient for alleged negligence of treatment.
The victim was identified as Shamsul Haque Munshi, 55, resident of Muminpara of the district town.
Sources at the hospital said critically ill Shamsul was admitted to 'Royal Hospital', a private hospital located at Chitralekha intersection around 11:30am.
Later, as the patient's condition deteriorated, on-duty doctor Ashis Kumar Pande advised the family members to take him t to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
At one stage, Shamsul died in the hospital.
Outraged by the death, the relatives of the patient vandalised the hospital furniture and beat up Ashis Kumar Pande and hospital manager Sohel Ahmed, leaving them injured.
The injured were admitted to Chandpur general hospital.
Protesting the attack by angry relatives, leaders of the district units of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Private Clinic Owners Association and the Diagnostic Owners Association announced a shut-down of all the private clinics and diagnostic centres of the town for 24 hours till Sunday afternoon.
Injured doctor Ashis Kumar Pande said there was no way other than transferring Shamsul as he was a serous patient. But the relatives of the patient were unwilling to take the patient to Dhaka.
