Pvt operator sets container handling record at Ctg Port

The private port operator Saif Powertec Limited at Chittagong Port claimed that it had set a record in handling cargoes and vessels in July last.
The private port operator, appointed for Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT), handled a total of 34,790 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers and a total of 33 feeder vessels during the period.
Sources with the private port operating company told the FE that in July last year 17,500 TEUs of containers and only 16 vessels, which arrived at the CCT, were hadled.
The use of modern container handling equipment at the CCT rose by 34 per cent after takeover by the private management at the terminal, the company claimed.
The private port operator's office in Dhaka told the FE that it made a record by completing loading and unloading of one feeder vessel -- Eagle Prestige of QC Shipping - within 45 hours during July this year.
