Qatar keen to hire workers from BD

Qatar is willing to hire workers from Bangladesh for employment in its security, hospitality and transport sectors ahead of the FIFA World Cup that kicks off this November.
Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, labour minister of the Gulf nation, expressed such willingness at a meeting with the visiting expatriates' welfare and overseas employment minister Imran Ahmad in Doha on Wednesday.
A press release, issued by the government ministry concerned here, has disclosed this.
Mr Marri further said that Qatar would start recruiting in construction sectors from mid-2023 and he showed interest in hiring skilled workers from Bangladesh.
He appreciated the efficiency of Bangladeshi workers and stressed the need for maintaining law and order of the oil-rich Gulf nation.
At that time, Mr Ahmad expressed eagerness to send necessary workers to Qatar for the soccer tournament.
He also spoke about Bangladesh's intent to extend any cooperation with Qatar in order to hold the blue-riband global sporting extravaganza successfully.
The meeting also discussed the holding of sixth joint committee meeting in Dhaka. They decided to hold the meeting by the next two months.Hassan Al-Obaidli, undersecretary at Qatar labour ministry, Md Billal Hossain, managing director of Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited, and officials from Bangladesh embassy in Doha, among others, were present.
