Official talks between Labour and Social Affairs Minister of Qatar Sultan Bin Hasan al-Dhabit Al-Dosari and Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhgury will be held in the city today (Sunday) regarding Bangladeshi workers, reports UNB.
The labour minister of the gulf country arrived here Saturday afternoon. The foreign adviser received the Qatari minister at the airport.
Following talks, a protocol will be signed at state guesthouse 'Padma' today regarding the Bangladeshi workers working in Qatar.
Talking to newsmen, the adviser expressed the hope that the signing of the deal would "protect the interest of Bangladeshi workers as well as make way for recruitment of increased numbers of workforce from the country".
He also said the existing friendly relations between the two countries would strengthen further through the visit of the minister.
He mentioned that this is the first-ever visit to Bangladesh by a labour minister of Qatar.
Expatriate Welfare Secretary Abdul Matin Chowdhury and Qatari Ambassador in Bangladesh Ibrahim Mohammd Al Abdullah were also present at the airport.
Last year, about 14,000 workers went to Qatar and the figure would double this year, he said.
Presently, 117,000 Bangladeshi workers are employed in the Middle-Eastern country.
