Qatar has proposed to open an office in Bangladesh to boost its export, especially urea fertiliser, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and petrochemical products.
Qatar Ambassador in Dhaka Abdullah Abdul Aziz Al Mana came up with the proposal when he met Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu at the latter's office in the city on Monday, reports UNB.
The envoy said new investment will come for Bangladesh's industrialisation apart from boosting bilateral trade if the office is opened.
During the meeting, they discussed various bilateral issues, including enhancing cooperation for smoother industrialisation in Bangladesh.
Mentioning Qatar as an important development partner of Bangladesh, the minister said Bangladesh wants to boost bilateral trade and investment in the coming days.
The minister urged the Qatar envoy to encourage his country's investors to invest in the prospective areas of Bangladesh.
In response to the proposal of opening an office, the industries minister said, "We'll consider the proposal positively."
