Qazi jailed for registering child marriage

A qazi, marriage registrar, was sentenced to 7 days’ rigorous imprisonment for registering marriage of a child in Nandail Upazila in Mymensingh district on Friday. The convict is Nizam Uddin, a local marriage registrar. Following tip off about a secret child marriage in Ghoshpara village, a police team along with Nandail Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ohidul Islam, conducted a drive in the village and held the qazi. Later, a mobile court led by the UNO, handed down the punishment, according to a news agency.
