Quader against extra bus fare

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday warned of exemplary action against the people involved in raising extra bus fare taking the advantage of on rush of Eid passengers. People were seen crowding buses, trains and launches yesterday to go to their respective village homes to celebrate Holy Eid-ul-Azha. "Punitive action is a must, if any transport worker or any group is found in taking additional transport fare from the passengers on the Eid occasion," Quader told journalists after visiting Sayedabad Bus Terminal in Dhaka, on Wednesday afternoon. Replying to a question, the minister said "We are trying our level best to ensure a smooth journey for the home-bound passengers but incessant rains in last few days affected the road-arrangements in some areas like Sayedabad entry point." About the dilapidated roads in Sayedabad and Jatrabari areas, he said this has been earlier informed to the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation over phone. "But the mayor said he is facing fund-crisis to repair those roads," he added. Concerned officials of the ministry and representatives of transport owners association accompanied the minister during the visit, according to a news agency.
