Communications Minister Obaidul Quader has directed the Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) to inspire women to take driving as their profession. He made the directive while inaugurating a car training programme at BRTC training centre in the city’s Tejgaon area on Tuesday. About growing road accidents in the country, he said the recklessness of drivers is the main reason behind road crashes and traffic congestion. “If the drivers get properly trained, they’ll be able to play a vital role in preventing road accidents and easing traffic jams.’ The state-owned BRTC runs the training programme with 4 cars having auto-transmission system. Under the programme, some 60 trainees can be trained a month. The number of the car featured with auto-transmission system will be increased in the future, according to UNB.
