Monday, 9 January 2012

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader has sought Japanese cooperation to help cut the perennial traffic congestion in Dhaka city, reports UNB.
The cooperation was sought when Japanese ambassador in Dhaka Shiro Sadoshima called on the Communications Minister at his Secretariat office Sunday.
During the meeting, they stressed strengthening the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan.
Obaidul Quader thanked Japan for its pledge to provide support in repairing the Meghna-Gomati Bridge on Dhaka-Chittagong highway and also in constructing the second Meghna-Gomati Bridge.
He also sought support from the government of Japan to repair the vulnerable Meghna Bridge at Bhairab and to construct the second Meghna Bridge.
At present, the government has taken in hand implementation of the Metro Rail Project in the capital with financial support from Japan. It is expected that a US$2 billion loan agreement will be signed next March in this regard.
