Quader takes 100-day programme for developing roads, highways

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader Sunday said the government has taken a 100-day programme for developing and repairing the country's roads and highways, reports BSS.
"We have planned to give priority to repair all existing roads along with construction works across the country aimed at smooth movement of motor vehicles," he said this while witnessing consultant signing ceremony at his ministry conference room in the city Sunday.
He said all the run-down roads would be repaired before the rainy season on priority basis, adding, "The government has a plan to procure equipment, new ferries and vehicles for expediting construction works."
The Minister said the ministry signed an agreement for appointing consultant for construction of four-lane 3rd bridge over the river Sheetalakshya.
Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) M Aminur Rahman Lasker and Managing Director of SARM Associates HM Abdul Matin signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
The Minister said the bridge to be constructed under joint venture with UMAR MUNSHI Associates, Pakistan and AL Muhandis NK Consulting Engineerings, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The total cost for construction of the bridge project has been fixed at Tk 3.77 billion, of which Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) will provide Tk 3.11 billion.
Besides, a 2.13-kilometre approach road to be constructed under the project.
Among others, Roads Division Secretary MAN Siddique, project director of the 3rd Sheetalakshya Bridge Project M Feroz Iqbal were present on the occasion.
