Quader talks tough against auto-bikes on highways

COMILLA, Nov 14 (UNB): Describing unauthorised vehicles like auto-bike as one of the main reasons behind frequent road accidents on highways, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader here said on Friday these types of vehicles will in no way be allowed to ply the motorways.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters at Paduar Bazar on Dhaka-Chittagong highway after a sudden crackdown on illegal three-wheelers there.
During the drive, the minister seized several battery-run auto-bikes and ordered the removal of the batteries of the vehicles.
Obaidul Quader observed that auto-bikes will continue to cause accidents on highways if those are allowed any longer, and urged the politicians not to invite accidents by allowing such unauthorized vehicles on the highways.
He also said four lanes of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway will be made fit for use by March next.
Project director of Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane highway project Engineer Ibne Alam Hassan, additional chief engineer of Comilla Roads and Highways Department Shibir Ahmed and assistant police superintendent of Comilla region highway police Mohammad Solaiman were, among others, present.
