Quader urges BNP to raise demands in parliament

Friday, 18 November 2011

Awami League (AL) Presidium Member and chairman of Parliamentary Committee on the Ministry of Information Obaidul Quader has urged the BNP leaders to raise their demands in parliament, shunning negative politics. The AL presidium member said this as the chief guest at a discussion organised by the National Awami Party (Bhashani) on the 35th death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) in the city Thursday, reports BSS. "The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) is the right place for discussion. No demand can be realised through movement on the street," he said. Chaired by NAP (Bhashani) President Mostaq Ahmad, the meeting was addressed, among others, by historian Dr Sirajuddin Ahmed and Krishak League Organising Secretary MA Karim. The AL leader expressed the hope that all political parties would participate in the next general election. "They should do this to strengthen democracy in the country," he said. "We want dialogue, but that should be in parliament," he said and added that there will be no benefit of holding talks, if the people concerned have no respect for parliamentary democracy. All the speakers paid rich tributes to the memory of Maulana Bhashani, the leader of the downtrodden and toiling masses. Dr Sirajuddin Ahmed said Maulana Bhashani brought politics to the doorsteps of the masses.
