Saturday, 14 May 2011

Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Obaidul Quader Friday called upon the opposition to build a bridge of consensus for holding the next elections shunning the path of confrontation, reports BSS. "Let us come to build a bridge of consensus for holding the next election with the participation of all parties through discussion in parliament," he said while addressing a discussion as the chief guest. He added: "Awami League has not taken any agenda for one-sided elections.........you are unnecessarily pushing the country to the path of confrontation by raising the wall of mistrust and doubt." Bangabandhu Academy arranged the discussion at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) on the occasion of the second death anniversary of eminent nuclear scientist Dr Wazed Mian. Awami League Presidium Member Satish Chandra Roy was the special guest at the discussion chaired by Bangabandhu Academy Chairman Hemayetuddin, Bir Bikram. On the opposition threat of movement for mid-term elections, Quader said when the BNP leaders and workers are engaged in internecine quarrel against each other, how they would launch a movement against the government. He highlighted the differences between the BNP and the AL and said the AL can do politics in an organized way at a bad time, while BNP is dispersed. Satish Chandra Roy termed Wazed Mia as an unassuming and a man without greed. "He did not exercise his power although he was very close to the power," he said.
