Food Minister and joint secretary of the city unit of Awami League (AL) Advocate Quamrul Islam has appealed to BNP to withdraw its protest programme on August 30, as a discussion meeting of the city unit of AL is scheduled for the same day. The discussion meeting will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city as part of the month-long programme of AL for the National Mourning Day, as announced earlier. The opposition BNP has announced a ‘human-chain’ and procession for the same day. Addressing a meeting of the Dhaka metropolitan unit of AL, Quamrul alleged that BNP had deliberately announced the programme to create trouble. ‘Processions would come from all wards and unions of the city unit, naturally it will create a violent situation,’ he said. If that happens, Quamrul warned then BNP’s programme will become a boomerang, according to a news agency.
