Quarishi demands reorganisation of EC
Sunday, 21 September 2008
Progatisheel Ganotantric Dal (PDP) Saturday demanded resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the reorganisation of the Election Commission (EC), reports BSS.
PDP chairman Ferdous Ahmed Quarishi, in a regular press briefing Saturday said that the EC would not be able to run the elections properly which was proved during the recent Barisal City Corporation (BCC) poll.
The briefing takes place once a week at the PDP office at Segunbagicha here.
The PDP leader said the elections to the recent city corporation and paurasabha elections were held peacefully due to the existence of state of emergency in the country.
In a five point observation, Quarishi said the EC has failed to create a level playing field. Neither they were successful to stop the influence of black money in the elections nor they imposed the new rules to resist the maneuvering of black money.
People lost their trust and confidence on the EC, he added.
Quarishi said the EC has printed low quality voter list with the photograph in a high cost venture.
He said the PDP will announce their next decisions on the demand of reorganisation of the EC if its demand is not fulfilled.
Responding to a question, he said, it is hard to believe that only a dialogue between the two former premiers would be able to free the country from all evils.
