Bangabandhu's Mar 7 speech to be included
in curriculum
The Proclamation of Independence will be included in the secondary level education curriculum while the historic March 7 address of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be incorporated in the syllabus of Class VIII. Education Minister Nurul Islam Naheed said this while replying to questions raised by lawmakers in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) here Thursday. —BSS
Steps to bring back street urchins to mainstream
of society
Social Welfare Minister Enamul Haque Mostafa Shaheed told the House Thursday that the government has undertaken appropriate steps to bring back the street children to the mainstream of society. Replying to a question raised by treasury bench member AKM Rahmatullah, he said 30,000 street urchins were given services through a project titled 'Appropriate Resources for Improving Street Children's Environment (ARISE)'. —BSS
13,236 abandoned houses in country
State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan Thursday told the JS that the number of countrywide abandoned houses were 13,236 of which 1,355 were beyond possession. Replying to a question by Jatiya Party lawmaker Hafizuddin Ahmed, he said in the capital Dhaka there were 6,640 abandoned houses of which 106 were out of the government possession. —BSS
Tk 72.5m spent by ACC for legal experts
The present Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) spent Tk 72.5 million (72.7,25,12,666) for its legal experts over the last two years till December 2008. Agriculture Minister Motia Chowdhury, also Minister in-charge of the Cabinet Division in the House, said this in reply to a written question raised by treasury bench member Waresat Hossain Belal. —BSS
JS decides to revise existing FF list
The JS Thursday took a unanimous decision to revise the existing list of Freedom Fighters (FFs) in all districts of the country. Treasury bench member M Israfil Alam (Nagoan-6) raised the private member's resolution in the House to drop the names of non- FFs from the list of FFs in Nagoan district. On a suggestion from State Minister for the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Capt (retd) Tajul Islam, the House passed the resolution on voice vote. —BSS
