Quilt makers pass busy days in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Dec 8: Quilt makers of the district have been passing busy time making various quilt items as lep, kantha, toshok, zazim, pillow etc with the onset of winter season.
They are working from morning to evening and making those items. Customers of different areas come to central masque area of Joypurhat town to buy quilts of their needs. Some of the expert quilt makers work here who are earning well in this season.
For a single quilt (lep) Tk 150 to 250 is charged as per size and quality, for a quilt (toshok) Tk 250 to 300 is charged, for a zazim Tk 200 is charged, said the sources
Mizanur Rahaman, a quilt worker said to the FE that he has been earning more than Tk 300 to 400 a day this season, but in the off season their income becomes lower than their family requirement.
Another worker Fazlu Mia of Santinagar area said that in winter season they earn more income which helps to lead their family for 3 to 4 months but after the winter season they receive very few orders as a result they have to seek other jobs.
In the local quilt inputs shop of city area, pure cotton is being sold at Tk 60 to 80, normal cotton made from garments cloths are being sold at Tk 30 to 50 as per quality. The quilt cover cloth is being sold at Tk 40 to 60 per 3 feet which was sold between Tk 32 to 45 a month ago, said a shop owner.
