Tuesday, 7 April 2009

Leading teachers and representatives of Qoumi madrasas at a press conference here Monday said they are ready to cooperate the government to combat terrorism and militancy, reports BSS received from Chittgong.
Protesting strongly the recent propaganda about the existence of terrorists and harbouring militancy in Qoumi madrasas in the country, they said there is no relation of violence and militant activities with around 15,000 such madrasas where around 2.0 million (20 lakh) students have been studying throughout the country.
"We are ready to cooperate the government on this issue if there are really such militant elements and efforts to nourish terrorism in the arenas of Qoumi madrasas in the country" they said.
Combined Qoumi Madrasa Association of Bangladesh (CQMAB) arranged the press conference at Chittagong Press Club in the morning.
Association Chairman Mufti Abdur Rahman read out the written statement at the conference attended by superintendents of different Qoumi madrasas, their representatives and association leaders including Allama Sultan Zouq Nadavi and Moulana Akhter Hossain.
"We are imparting education on morality, patriotism, social welfare and brotherhood in light with the teachings of Holy Quran and Hadith to our students.
Moreover, the teachers and students of the institutions truly imbued with patriotism free from any party politics, the leaders of the organisation claimed.
The organisers said none of the teachers and students of the madrasas under their management had been accused of treason or any subversive activities since the independence and the madrasa campuses are free from all sorts of campus violence.
The speakers asked the concerned persons and authorities to abstain from such baseless and malicious campaign against the Qoumi madrasas and threatened to launch greater movement if any attempt was taken against the Qoumi madrasa education in the name of preventing terrorism and militancy.
