Quota system for freedom fighters

Monday, 6 July 2015

The quota system for the freedom fighters in Bangladesh was meant for the war-affected people in 1971 as well as to show respect for their sacrifices. We congratulate the Prime Minister for allotting special quota for the sons and daughters of Muktijoddhas in the 28th and 29th BCS examinations. The present Prime Minister made the provision of quota for sons and daughters of Muktijoddhas, when she was in power last time. She has taken another very important decision when she came to power this time. The BCS posts that were lying vacant because candidates who qualified for those positions could not be accepted on health and police enquiry grounds are to be filled up under the Muktijoddha quota.
The press release of the PSC, however, says that in case of appointments merit and usual quota system have been followed. But actually there has been a transgression of the merit list. If we analyse the merit list, children of Muktijoddhas who are ahead in the merit list have been selected for non-cadre posts while, those lower down on the list have been given cadre positions. Muktijoddha children qualifying in the 30th BCS examinations, have been selected for the cadre posts before the end of selection for the said posts. The difference in application of the same law is leading the children of Muktijoddhas to great disappointment. It is the demand of the sons and daughters of the Muktijoddhas of the country that previous recommendations of appointment of the Muktijoddhas' children for the 28th and 29th BCS examinations have to be cancelled and new recommendations made for appointment of Muktijoddha children against vacancies in the merit list. It should be done in the honour and dignity of the freedom fighters who laid down their lives and also those who were injured.
