Quota system must be reviewed
Tuesday, 10 April 2018
NUMBER of unemployed educated young men and women has been rising with time and the present volume of employment generation in the country is nowhere near the required level. As a result, increasing unemployment has been putting further pressure on the population as a whole. Each year more fresh graduates are being added to our work force but most of them remain either unemployed or under-employed. Quota system in government employment has added further insult to the injuries. Many deserving candidates are being deprived of lucrative government jobs which are being awarded to less deserving candidates, thanks to quota system. However, I am not against the quota system altogether and what I feel is that quota should be lowered to a justified level so that nobody feels deprived. Furthermore, it has been observed that in order to take advantage of the quota system some candidates were adopting unfair means to procure certificates required for different job categories under the quota system. That is why I strongly feel that quota should be reduced and merit should be given priority over other considerations if we want to ensure quality in administration of the country. Without meritocracy, the government's vision of digital Bangladesh shall remain an illusion for ever.
