RAB arrests four busting airport-based fraud gang

FE REPORT | Monday, 3 October 2022

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested four persons including the ringleader of a fraud gang based at Dhaka airport for their alleged involvement in looting valuables from Bangladeshi expatriates after their arrival.
Over the past 15 years, the gang members have looted valuables from 300 Bangladeshi expatriates after their arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city.
Director (Media and legal) of RAB Khandaker Al Moin disclosed the development at the crime busting force's media centre in the capital's Karwan Bazar on Sunday.
He said over 15 cases were filed against the ringleader, Amir Hossain, who had been in bail until arrest.
He served several jail terms and was again involved in heinous crimes after coming out of jail on bail.
The elite force official further said a team of RAB-1 during separate drives arrested the four from the Airport Police Station and Kadamtali Police Station areas on Saturday night.
The three others were identified as Md Liton Mia alias Milton (48), Abu Bakar Siddique alias Parvez (35) and Jakir Hossain (40).
The gang members impersonating passengers made the expatriates unconscious after their arrival at the airport and looted all their belongings.
Mr Moin said the elite force acted upon the complaints lodged by victims with Uttara West Police Station on September 6.
The RAB intensified its detective monitoring and made the arrests by examining video footages from different areas of the capital and gathering information from the eyewitnesses.
Amir Hossain had previously worked at a fast food shop at the airport, the RAB commander said.
