RAB arrests top JMB cadre, three activists in two districts

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested four Jama'atul Mujaheedin Bangladesh (JMB) activists including a JMB cadre in two districts-Joypurhat and Khagrachhari-during Thursday and Friday night, reports BSS.
RAB-5 arrested an absconding top ranking cadre of the banned extremist outfit-Jama'atul Mujaheedin Bangladesh (JMB)-from his house at Begungram village under Kalai Upazila in Joypurhat Friday night, RAB sources said.
The arrested JMB cadre was identified as Masudur Rahman Ranu (27), son of Mahfuzur Rahman of the village.
He had been on the run since 2003 when the JMB militants attacked police personnel and snatched arms and ammunitions in Joypurhat.
He was arrested in connection with attacking policemen, injuring them and snatching arms and ammunitions from the house of top ranking JMB leader Montezar Rahman at village Moheshpur under Khetlal Upazila in Joypurhat on August 14, 2003.
Acting on secret information, a special RAB team led by Squadron Leader Hussaine Mohammad Rajib from Joypurhat RAB camp conducted a sudden raid and arrested him from his house at about 9:30pm.
After primary interrogation at Joypurhat RAB camp, the elite force handed over the arrested JMB cadre to Khetlal Police station, the sources said.
Meanwhile, the RAB rounded up three activists of the outlawed Jama'atul Mujaheedin Bangladesh (JMB) from Matiranga in the hill district of Khagrachhari Thursday.
RAB sources said, acting on a tip off, a team of the force arrested the JMB activists-Mohammad Yunus, 40, Mohammad Delwar (38) and Jahedul Islam (28) -who had been hiding in the area for a long time.
Matiranga Police said criminal cases were pending against the arrested with the police station.
