RAB asked to submit Sagor-Runi killing probe report by Aug 13
Sunday, 29 June 2014
A Dhaka court on Sunday asked Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to submit its investigation report on the murder of journalist couple Sagor-Runi by August 13. As the investigation report has not been submitted to the court after 26 fixed dates, including the June 29 deadline, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Erfan Ullah fixed the fresh deadline on Aug 13. Eight of the accused in the case were produced before the court today. Since the murder of Sagor and Runi in February 2012, two officers of RAB 1 – ASP Jafar Ullah and ASP M Wares Ali Mian – have been appointed as the investigation officer of the case one after another. On February 11, 2012, Maasranga Television News Editor Sagor Sarowar and his wife, ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi, were hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in their rented apartment in the city’s Pashchim Razabazar area, according to UNB.
