RAB ditches European Parliament statement

Refuting the European Parliament's (EP) recent statement over the impunity of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the elite force headquarters here on Sunday said RAB does not want any impunity for its any member involved in crimes, reports UNB.
RAB's reaction came in an SMS sent to reporters' cellphones quoting its director general Mukhlesur Rahman as saying.
The RAB SMS also categorically said its headquarters knew nothing beforehand about the Narayanganj seven murders.
The EP in a resolution Thursday urged the Bangladesh authorities to put an end to RAB's impunity.
The Members of European Parliament (MEPs) also said human rights violations by RAB members an emergency force created 10 years ago comprising both military and police officers should stop.
On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area in Narayanganj city. Hours into their abduction, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge's Court, Chandan Kumar Sarker, and his driver were abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.
Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30. Besides, the body of Jahangir, the driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the river on May 1.
