FE Report
A gang of criminals injured a RAB official and snatched one of their accomplices from the custody of Rapid Action Battalion at Mirpur in the city Sunday afternoon, RAB sources said.
An officer of RAB headquarters told the FE that Maj Khandokar Golam Sarwar of RAB-4 unit went to NAM Garden at Mirpur to nab the associates of the now dead ringleader of a terror group, Shahar Ali, and apprehended a suspect at about 2:15pm.
When the RAB officer was boarding his vehicle with the suspect, cohorts of the detainee who were hiding in a micro-bus rushed to the spot and hit him hard on his head with a stick before snatching the detainee.
The gang then drove away with the suspect leaving Maj Sarwar unconscious. He was rushed to the Combined Military Hospital for treatment.
"The RAB officer went there to arrest Shahar Ali's accomplices," the RAB officer said.
Shahar Ali, a convicted fugitive in several cases, was killed in a shootout between his cohorts and a RAB team at Mirpur Saturday.
