Sunday, 29 April 2018
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered on Saturday gold bars weighing 13 kilograms from the city's Uttara, which was smuggled into the country. The law enforcement agency nabbed two "active members" of an international gold smuggling cartel - Kazi Mahbub, 40 and Md Zakir, 55 - from the scene, said RAB-1 commanding officer Sarwar Bin Kashem. Tipped off, a team from the RAB-1 raided a flat in an eight-storey building located in Uttara Sector-6 to recover the gold, he said. The law enforcer said that the two detainees smuggled in the gold from Singapore recently. RAB will take necessary steps to file a case in this regard, Mr Kashem added.
