Rabeya Khatun turns 80 today

Today (Saturday) is the 80th birth anniversary of eminent author Rabeya Khatun.
Once a teacher, Rabeya Khatun became popular as a writer after her first novel 'Madhumati' published in 1963. She was the editor of the monthly 'Angana' in the 50s. She also served the daily Ittefaq and cinema magazines.
Rabeya Khatun authored over 100 books in different genres of literature that include essay, novel, research, short story, religious history, travel story, reminiscence and adolescent novel.
Many of her works were adopted for television and film. The films are President (1966), Kokhono Megh Kokhono Brishti (2003), Megher Por Megh (2004), Dhrubotara and Madhumati (2010).
She won numerous awards for her contributions to the country's literature, including Ekushey Padak in 1993, Bangla Academy Purashkar in 1973, Nasiruddin Swarna Padak in 1995, Humayan Smrity Purashkar in 1989, Kamar Mushtaree Sahitya Purashkar in 1994, Bangladesh Lekhika Sangha Purashkar in 1994, Sher-e-Bangla Swarna Padak in 1996 and Wrishiz Sahitya Padak in 1998, according to a press release.
