Rahmatganj MFS caused a major upset in the Grameenphone Bangladesh League beating holders Abahani Limited by 1-0 goal in the day's lone match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Monday, reports UNB. Cameroonian striker Modo Hughes scored the all-important goal in the 23rd minute against the run of the match by a powerful shot from about 25 yards surprising Abahani custodian Sohel (1-0). Abahani was spared further ignominy when Ugandan forward Idris Kasirye failed to score from a penalty in the 28th minute. Rahmatganj was awarded the spot kick when Abahani custodian Sohel brought down onrushing Idris in the danger zone. The frustration of the popular sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit mounted in the 30th minute when Abahani's Ghanaian striker Twaunu Frank failed to convert a penalty kick as his shot went straight to goal keeper Iran Sheikh. Abahani got the spot kick when Rahmatganj goal keeper Iran Sheikh fouled Frank in the six-yard box. In the 41st minute, another attempt of Frank from the top of the box sailed over the crossbar amid frustration of the Abahani fans. Nine minutes after the lemon break, another attempt of substitute forward Sakhawat Rony was saved by Rahmatganj custodian at the cost of corner. And in the following minute, Abahani's Ghanaian medio Yusuf Aminu's goal-bound shot was cleared by Michael Dumba, the Ugandan defender of Rahmatganj MFS. Abahani's desperate bid to save the day came to nought as forward Robin headed wide from six-yard box in the 66th minute, defender Linkon hit the goalpost in the 74th minute and Keivan Sajedi, the Iranian playmaker, shot wide in the 87th minute. Despite the day's defeat, Abahani Limited remained in the second slot with 35 points from 16 matches, three points behind leaders Muktijoddha Sangsad KC (38). With the day's win, Rahmatganj advanced to the sixth place with 20 points from 16 matches.
