Rahmatganj in last 16 despite being held by Brothers

Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society Club had to struggle to qualify for the quarterfinal of Grameenphone Federation Cup after a hard fought 3-3 draw against Brothers Union at Bir Sherestha Sipahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city Wednesday, reports BSS.
Hats off to Brothers Union, who despite being reduced to ten men, fought gallantly till the final whistle. Gopibagh based Brothers saw their player Khan Mohammad Tara shown a red card in the 72nd minutes.
However it was Brothers who shot into the lead when their midfielder Kabir Hossain found the target in the 31st minute after Nigerian forward Olalekan Joshua sent a measured cross from the right flank and the rival defense failed to clear it cleanly, Kabir standing unmarked at the top of the box unleashed a powerful shot to score 1-0.
Rahmatganj equalised in the injury time of the first half through their Nigerian forward Lucky Divine. Taking control of a Shankar Das through pass Divine dribbled past two defenders and placed the ball at the far corner of the post (1-1).
Rahmatganj took the lead just two minutes after the re-start and it was Divine again. Idris Kasirye's volley on a Michael Dumba lob was punched by Brothers goalie Sabbuj Das Raghu but Divine latched on the loose ball to slot it home(2-1). Brothers Union rose from slumber to find the equaliser in the 58th minute.
Nigerian forward Kingsley cut back to Anik from the right flank and Anik scored with right footer from left edge of the box (2-2) Brothers was reduced to ten men in the 72nd minute when defender Khan Md. Tara was sent off for pulling down Divine at the edge of the box and Guinean midfielder Konte Bangoura scored the third from the free kick (3-2).
Rahmatganj defender Shayamal Ahmed Rony made a mess of everything as he fouled Kingsley inside the box and Nigerian defender Adams Jankasha made no mistake to converted the penalty (3- 3).
In the day's other fixture, Farashganj Sporting Club sealed their Grameenphone Federation Cup quarterfinal fate by becoming the champions of group D with a win against Wari Club by 2-0 goals at Bangabandhu National Stadium today.
Farashganj earned seven points to bag the top spot in their group and will play the quarterfinal against Muktijoddha while runners-up of the group Rahmatganj, who earned five points will face BJMC in their quarterfinal match.
Farashganj forward Pashobon Mollah scored the first goal in the 53rd minute (1- 0) Saiful Arefin Rubel extended the lead in the 81st minute with a surprise shot from 30 yards (2-0).
