Rail link restored after train derailment
Monday, 24 March 2014
Chandpur rail links were back on track after a 13-hour suspension following a derailment. The accident disrupted train services on several routes of the Chandpur-Chittagong, Chandpur-Comilla and Chandpur-Laksam sections. They resumed around 10am on Monday after the tracks were repaired, said Laksam Railway Inspector (Traffic) Masud Sarwar. Four wheels of a local train had jumped the rails while it was proceeding towards the town’s Mission Road around 9pm on Sunday, said Chandpur Railway Station Assistant Master Maruf Hossain. Sarwar is heading a probe into the accident. Liakat Ali Majumder, a railway engineer, said the tracks needed immediate repairs. Engine drivers had been directed to drop speed while passing through this section, Majumder said, according to bdnews24.com.
