Monday, 23 June 2014

CHITTAGONG, June 22 (UNB): Train communications of the port city of Chittagong with the rest of the country resumed on Sunday afternoon, after six hours of suspension.
Train services on Chittagong-Dhaka and Chittagong-Sylhet routes were suspended in the morning as a railway bridge subsided following the onrush of water from hills near Bhatiari Railway Station in Sitakunda upazila.
Abdul Hye, an engineer of Railway's East Zone, said part of No. 34 railway bridge caved in around 11 am due to incessant rains for the last three days, forcing the authorities to suspend the train services of Chittagong with the rest of the country.
Later, the rail link was restored around 5pm after the damaged bridge was repaired, he said.
