Rail links with north, south regions resumed

Saturday, 21 June 2014

Train communications of Dhaka with the country’s northern and southern regions resumed after seven hours of disruption due to the soil erosion beneath the rail tracks in Kalihati upazila of Tangail district. Officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station Akheruzzaman said part of the rail tracks subsided near a bridge in Analiabari area after soil was washed away by water due to heavy downpour for the last two days, halting train services on the two routes from 8am on Saturday. Several trains got stranded on both sides due to trouble in the rail lines. The train communications resumed around 3pm after the damaged rail tracks were repaired, said stationmaster Abdul Mannan of Ibrahimabad Railway Station, according to a news agency.
