Rain brings relief at last

Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind occurred in the capital and some parts of the country on Tuesday bringing a great relief for the people from the persistent heat wave prevailing for the last couple of days.
However, the ongoing heat wave may sweep over some regions of the country today (Wednesday) and tomorrow, Ruhul Kuddus, a meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) told the Financial Express.
On Tuesday, the Met Office recorded maximum 67 mm (millimetres) heavy rainfall in Sylhet division while it recorded 43 mm moderately heavy rain in Dhaka from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm, the meteorologist Ruhul said.
Apart from this, Kishoreganj (Nikli) witnessed 50 mm heavy rainfall, he said.
On Tuesday, the highest temperature was recorded at 39 degrees Celsius at Jashore while 35.7 degree Celsius was recorded in Dhaka, the BMD meteorologist added.
A bdnews24.com report adds: At least seven people have died after being hit by lightning strikes during rainstorm in Netrokona.
The lightning strikes left three others injured in Kendua, Khaliajuri and Madan Upazilas on Tuesday afternoon.
The dead have been identified as "Bayezid", 42, Fazlu Mia, 55, Wasek Mia, 35, Bipul Mia, 32, Monir Hossain, 28, "Atabur", 21, and "Sharif", 18.
