Rain comes as a boon for Magura Aus growers

MAGURA, May 14: Aus growers of Magura were waiting for about two weeks for rainfall. Heavy rainfall for 3 days (Monday to Wednesday) has raised hope among the farmers of Magura.
Magura Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) informed they have taken a scheme to bring 4960 hectares of land under Aus cultivation in the district with an output target of 12050 tonnes of rice. When contacted, Toimur Rahman, an Aus grower of village Parla under Magura sadar upazila said, "I was waiting for rain for two weeks to prepare my seedbed. The rainfall has come as a boon for us. Earlier I was thinking to irrigate my land. The rain has freed me from the cost of irrigation.
Rashid Biswas, another Aus farmer of village Akshi under Magura Sadar Upazila said, after rain Aus farmers in the district are busy preparing seedbeds.
Magura DAE official Noabul Alam said, recent rainfall has made Aus cultivation easier for farmers. This rain has brought smile on the faces of Magura Aus growers.
