Rain comes as a boon for Magura jute growers

MAGURA, June 17: Rain has come as a boon for Magura jute growers. It was raining in Magura heavily for last seven days. The rain has raised hope among the jute growers and they are expecting a bumper production of jute.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Magura, informed a total of 27500 hectares of land have been brought under jute cultivation in the district this year with an output target of 259050 bales jute. The total rainfall in the district from last Wednesday to Tuesday was 350 mm.
When contacted Abu Taleb, a jute grower of village Nanduali under Magura sadar upazila said, "I have cultivated four bighas of land with jute this season. Earlier I was worried as extreme drought was prevailing in the district. But recent rainfall has made me optimistic of a bumper production."
