Rain disrupts port activity, normal life in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, May 11: Normal life in the port city has been disrupted due to continuous drizzling since early morning on Sunday.
Weather office issued cautionary signal number 3 for Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla seaports.
An official said the sky is covered with cloud that causes incessant rainfall since 6.00 am. The weather office recorded 177 mm rainfall during nine hours until 3.00 pm today.
Children could not attend schools while the office goers had to face a lot of sufferings as traffic movement was very thin and many areas in the city went under knee-deep water.
The residents of Bakolia, Chawkbazar, Bahaddarhat, Kapashgola, Halishahar, Agrabad CDA residential, Muradpur, Sholashahar Rail Gate and Chandgaon could not come out of homes as those areas went under water.
Cargo handling activities in the port and outer anchorage were suspended till evening and the lightering vessels could not load goods from the mother vessels in the outer anchorage.
Rain, however, stopped after 5.00 pm but the weather office said rainfall may continue for about 24 hours.
