Rain, flooding damage 1.0pc Boro paddy

Recent flash flood and heavy rain have caused damage to around 1.0 per cent of boro paddy in total cultivation both in the country's haor and non-haor areas, according to data prepared by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
However, some 41-per cent paddy in haor region has been harvested as of April 20, the data showed.
Of the total, some 38 per cent in Kishoreganj, 73 per cent in Netrakona, 29 per cent in Brahmanbaria, 37 per cent in Sylhet, 36 per cent in Moulvibazar, 25 per cent in Habiganj and 42 per cent in Sunamganj paddy have already been harvested in haor areas.
Boro paddy has been planted in over 0.45 million (452,138) hectares of land in Kishoreganj, Netrakona, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sunamganj districts, the DAE data showed.
The paddy has been planted in over 0.49 million (498,180) hectares of land in non-haor areas this year. A total of 950,318 hectares of land in both haor and non-haor areas in the country have been planted.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture is providing necessary assistance to the farmers for speedy harvesting of ripe paddy.
Adequate allocation of combine harvester and reaper has been made and the machinery has been brought from other districts as well.
At present about 1,700 combine harvesters and reapers are harvesting paddy in haor areas.
Of which, as many as 1,100 combine harvesters are from the local areas while 350 combine harvesters are brought from other districts.
