Rain heavily disrupts normal life

Normal life was thrown out of gear in the city due to incessant rains that led to its roads water clogged and gridlocked. The downpour badly disrupted the city’s road communications with the port city, southern, south-western and northern districts. In Dhaka, the inhabitants of the capital were witnessing heavy traffic congestion due to rainfall in the last three days that submerged in many parts of the city, its suburb and adjoining areas on Thursday afternoon and on Saturday morning. Most of the roads including Malibagh, Mouchak, Shantinagar, Mogbazar, Mirpur, Rampura, Tejgaon and parts of Old Dhaka were water-logged. Several roads were seen jam-packed with hundreds vehicles as roads went under knee-deep water for incessant rainfall in the last 72 hours exposing the capital’s poor drainage system. The water-logging caused immense sufferings to office-goers and students on Saturday morning. Besides, accidents took place as drivers and passersby could not understand the ditch as rain water submerged the roads. Meanwhile, the authorities ordered the closure of some of schools in the affected areas in the city, according to a news agency.
