Rain-marred BD-India Test drawn

FATULLAH, June 14 (UNB): Bangladesh and visiting India played out draw on the fifth day of the rain-hampered, stop-and-start solitary Test match of the Za'n Zee Ice Cream Cricket Series at the Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium at Fatullah Sunday.
In the day's play, replying to India's 462/6-declared in the first innings, Bangladesh resumed their first innings with overnight score of 111 for 3 in 30.1 overs and carried the team total to 256 for all in 65.5 overs.
Overnight batsman Imrul Kayes added more 13 runs on the final day with his previous 59 runs to score 72 runs off 139 balls featuring 12 fours while other overnight batsman Shakib Al Hasan scored only 9 runs off 15 balls with two fours.
Debutant Litton Kumar Das scored a quick 44 runs off 45 balls with eight fours and the only six for Bangladesh while number six Soumya Sarkar scored 37 runs off 54 balls with seven fours.
Number nine Taijul Islam added not out 16 runs off 31 balls with three fours while another overnight batsman world class all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan scored only 9 runs off 15 balls with two fours.
Bangladesh needed 152 to avoid the follow-on with seven wickets in hand on the final day's play, but Ravichandran Ashwin 5 for 87 restricted the Tigers at 145. Apart from Ashwin's 5-wicket haul, Harbhajan Singh captured 3 wickets conceding 64 runs while Varun Raymond Aaron took one wicket for 27 runs for India.
Bangladesh opened the second innings on the day as they followed on, and as the visitors' skipper Virat Kohli asked them to bat again, and scored unbeaten 23 runs in 15 overs for no loss involving four fours within 46 minutes when the bails were drawn for the final day.
The opening pair between Tamim Iqbal (not out 16 off 41b) and Soumya Sarkar (not out 7 off 49b) completed the second innings job for Bangladesh.
The inevitable draw result pushed India to slip to fourth position from the third in the ICC Test Rankings list with 97 rating points.
Shikhar Dhawan who hit a century scoring 173 runs in the first innings for the visitors was adjudged player of the match. Litton Kumar Das of Bangladesh made his Test debut in the match.
