Rain paralyses city life
Monday, 23 June 2014
Heavy rains triggered by monsoon lashed many parts of the city Sunday, leaving the normal life in disarray, reports UNB.
Streets were inundated under knee-deep water in many areas, including Kakrail, Mouchak, Malibagh, Karwanbazar, Mirpur, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Shyamoli, Kathalbagan, Green Road and Motijheel area.
Commuters, particularly school children, experienced immense suffering due to non-availability of vehicles.
People in many areas had to wade through the water-logged streets.
Many of them complained that rickshaws and CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers charged them excessive fares, taking advantage of the inclement weather.
The met office recorded 25mm of rain in the last 24 hours until 6:00 am Sunday.
The weather may remain unchanged until Monday, said Zahid Hossain, senior observer of the Met Office.
