Residents of Dhaka City have been suffering due to water-logging caused by heavy rain on Monday morning and shortage of transport. The torrential rains started around 8:30am on Monday and have continued without a let-up until 11am inundating a vast part of the city. Many areas are now under water, an employee of a private commercial bank said. He said the downpour resulted in disruption of normal city life as many areas went under rainwater. Office-goers, students and commuters are the worst sufferers, witnesses said. They said many areas in the capital including Malibagh, Rampura, Mothertek, Motijheel, Kakrail, Shantinagar, Mouchak, Karwanbazar, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Mirpur, Shyamoli, Kathalbagan, Green Road of Dhanmondi and its adjoining low-lying areas Jatrabari, Sanir Akhra and Rayerbag areas were inundated under knee-deep water due to rainfall. Met Office spokesman Mahmudul Islam said at 11:00am today that 36mm rainfall was recorded in the capital. The inclement weather may continue till Wednesday, he added, according to a news agency.
