Monday, 18 April 2011

NETRAKONA, Apr 17 (BSS): Netrakona district experienced light to moderate rainfall Friday afternoon after facing a month long hot-spell and drought. The rainfall lasted for about an hour and drenched the Boro paddy field, which developed cracks in many areas of the district for want of adequate water. The downpour brought relief to the local people as they were eagerly waiting for the rain after experiencing the month long hot spell. Meanwhile, a sprightly mood has been generated among the Boro cultivators following the rainfall. Farmers termed the rainfall as "divine blessings" for the Boro crops as the rainwater was very necessary for raising the Boro plants and growing the paddy properly. The rainfall also helped the Boro cultivators to reduce the cost of production of the Boro paddy as they have now got the opportunity to keep their irrigation machinery's inoperative for several days, the farmers said.
