Rains bring relief

The much-needed shower on Saturday evening brought relief to the city dwellers of Dhaka after two weeks of sizzling heat.
Mahbub Kabir, meteorological assistant of Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told the FE: "It has been raining in some areas of Dhaka city like Agargaon, Mirpur since Saturday evening. We are yet to measure the rainfall."
He said the highest temperature of the country was recorded in Chuadanga Saturday. It was 41.3 degrees Celsius while the lowest temperature was recorded in Syedpur, 22.3 degrees Celsius.
The highest temperature recorded in Dhaka Saturday was 38.0 degrees Celsius while the lowest 28.0 degrees.
The Met Office said rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind might occur at one or two places in Rajshahi, Khulna, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions and the regions of Comilla and Noakhali with hails at places. Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.
A severe heat wave was sweeping over the regions of Rajshahi and Chuadanga. A mild to moderate heat wave was sweeping over Dhaka, Sylhet, Barisal and the remaining part of Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and the regions of Rangamati, Comilla, Chandpur, M.Court and Feni.
Day and night temperature might fall slightly over the country, the Met office said.
