Rainy season wear expo begins at Nogordola

A month-long exposition of rainy season wear and crafts, based on inspiration of indigenous textile designs, was inaugurated Monday at Nogordola, a house of handicrafts and handloom textiles, at Dhanmondi in the city.
Women's right activist Maleka Begum inaugurated the exhibition, while ethnic handloom textile promoter Manjulika Chakma was present as the special guest.
Among others, Dhaka Ahsania Mission President and Chief Executive Kazi Rafiqual Alam and General Secretary Md Ziauddin, Women for Women's Vice-President Pervin Ahmed and Project In-Charge Md Ali Afzal, and Nogordola Consultant (design and product development) Chandra Shekhar Shaha were also present on the occasion.
A three-day free mehdi festival titled 'Nagordola's offer in Beautification', in cooperation with Mumtaz's Herbal, has been also arranged on the occasion. A special corner of Nagordola Herbal Products has been inaugurated.
Maleka Begum in her speech said, though the indigenous people are a small community, they are part and ornament of our national culture, and their rich heritage has been enriching our culture for a long time. Through the exposition, an effort has been made to highlight their cultural tradition, she added.
Nagordola has selected 16 designs from ALAM for the rainy season exposition, highlighting a colourful variety of collection.
