Raising of Thai-Bangla trade stressed

FE ReportbrBusiness leaders of both Thailand and Bangladesh laid emphasis on increasing bilateral trade between the two countries to the tune of 1.0 billion US dollars within three years.brThe Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka organised a seminar on 'Trading with Thailand -- towards one-billion-dollar target' to mark the 36th anniversary of Bangladesh-Thailand diplomatic relations at Westin in the city Sunday.brThey also felt the importance of Thailand-Myanmar-Bangladesh land route that would help increase regional trade by cutting transport cost.brK Habib Sattar, president of Bangladesh-Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said Bangladeshi exporters must produce quality goods at competitive prices to offer to Thai consumers.brHe said Thailand's economy is flourishing with a per capita income of over 3,000 US dollars, and Bangladesh has high prospect of penetrating into Thai market.brMingphant Chaya, president of the Thai-Bangladesh Business Council (TBBC), invited the Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to set up industries in Thailand and sell products in the Thai market and tap the EU and US markets.brMentioning the meeting between Bangladesh Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury and Thai Foreign Minister Tej Bunnag on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC meeting held in New Delhi recently, Mingphant Chaya told the seminar that both countries had agreed to reactivate the Joint Economic Commission to raise bilateral trade.
