Rajbari crash toll hits 10

The death toll in a road accident on Friday on Daulatdia-Khulna Highway at Rajbari Sadar Upazila rose to 10. Police, hospital sources and local people said 10 people have been killed in the head-on collision between two buses at Basantapur under Rajbari Sadar Upazila in the morning. The accident on the Khulna-Daulatdia-Faridpur Highway around 3.30am left at least 25 others injured, Rajbari highway police outpost Sergeant Lazim Uddin said. Two of the injured later died at a local hospital raising the death toll to 10. Lazim Uddin said a Barisal-bound bus of ‘Global Paribahan’ from Dhaka and a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Eagle Paribahan’ from Khulna city rammed into each other. The Eagle Paribahan bus fell into a roadside ditch due to the impact of the collision while the other bus was heavily damaged. Eight bodies were recovered from the scene, Sergeant Lazim said. They have been kept at Goalanda intersection highway police outpost. It was not clear whether all the victims were from a single bus. Police have identified four victims as ‘Global Paribahan’ driver Alamgir Hossain, passenger ‘Payel’, supervisor Babu Fakir Selim and driver Alamgir’s assistant ‘Jewel’, report agencies.
