Friday, 8 August 2014
The Faridpur-Rajbari railway service which was closed 16 years ago has resumed on a trial basis after constructing new 30-kilometre track and reconstructing 7 railway stations this year. According to official sources, the rail service was abandoned on March 15 in 1998 when it was found to be economically not viable due to mismanagement of the concerned authority. However, on March 10, 2010, the project was taken up to connect with the under-construction Padma Bridge. The 30 kms new railway track and 7 stations in this route were completed on Thursday at an estimated cost of Tk 900 million that took four years. The newly reconstructed stations are Panchuria, Khankhanapur, Rajbai, Basantapur, Amirabad, Ambicapur and Faridpur, according to BSS.
