RAJSHAHI, Sept 16: Despite a satisfactory supply, selling of sacrificial animals in local haats and cattle-markets has not yet been started in full swing as the holy Eid-ul-Azha is only one week to be celebrated.
Though the cattle markets of the district are witnessing a huge supply of sacrificial animals like cow, buffalo, goat and sheep, a low turnout of customers at the markets is disappointing the cattle traders.
However, most of the cattleheads are now being selling at various haats of Rajshahi belonging to local breed. Though influx of smuggled cattle have started to enter the country from bordering areas of Rajshahi, most of those are being carried direct to Dhaka or Chittagong on trucks.
Azibar Mian, a cattle trader from Sultanganj of Rajshahi informed that he used to carry sacrificial animals to Dhaka and Chittagong through trucks. He said, despite plenty of supplies of cattleheads in various haats and markets of Rajshahi, the price of those has not yet decreased.
